Easter, with its mix of tradition, colour, and chocolate, is the perfect time to reconnect, slow down, and enjoy your loved ones. Whether your kids are toddlers or teens, Easter presents endless opportunities to create memories that you’ll treasure for years (and perhaps even frame on the wall!).
Here are 10 fun and meaningful activities you can do with your kids this Easter to make it extra special:
1. Easter Egg Hunt at Home or in the Backyard
Let’s start with the classic. You don’t need a big space or a big budget to host a magical Easter egg hunt. Hide chocolates and small toys around the house or garden and let the kids loose with baskets in hand. Add clues or riddles for older children to keep it interesting!
Photographer tip: Have your camera ready for the moment they spot their first egg—those expressions are priceless.
2. DIY Easter Crafts Session
Break out the glue, paper, scissors, and glitter. Making Easter bunny ears, hand-painted eggs, or colourful paper garlands is a wonderful way to get creative as a family. It’s also a great screen-free activity that encourages kids to slow down and enjoy the process.
Bonus: These handmade creations also make beautiful photo props.
3. Easter Baking Day
Cookies shaped like bunnies, hot cross buns, chocolate nests, or even a carrot cake—get the kids involved in measuring, mixing, and decorating. It might get messy, but that’s part of the fun!
Photographer tip: Snap photos of flour-dusted noses and chocolate-covered fingers—you’ll love looking back on them.
4. Picnic in a Local Park
Brisbane has some beautiful parks perfect for a family Easter picnic. Pack your Easter treats, bring a few outdoor games, and enjoy some sunshine at places like New Farm Park, Roma Street Parkland, or the Brisbane Botanic Gardens.
Don’t forget a picnic rug and a camera to capture candid family moments in the golden light.
5. Visit a Local Easter Market or Festival
Brisbane always comes alive around Easter with fun community events. Check out your local area for Easter markets, petting zoos, and kid-friendly entertainment. The energy and excitement make for fantastic family memories (and photos too!).
6. Easter Storytime & Pyjama Morning
For a quieter morning, gather in your PJs with hot cross buns and have a little Easter storytime. Whether you read a book about the Easter bunny or share stories from your own childhood, this calm and cosy activity helps create lasting connections.
Pro tip: Take a photo of everyone snuggled on the couch in their jammies—it’s the everyday moments that often mean the most.
7. Family Garden Project
Autumn is a beautiful time to be in the garden in Brisbane. Why not plant a few flowers, herbs, or veggies together as a family Easter tradition? It’s a grounding activity that teaches patience and care.
Photographer tip: Dirt-smudged faces and tiny hands digging in the soil make for wonderfully real portraits.
8. Easter Movie Night
Set up a cosy lounge with pillows and blankets, pop some popcorn, and watch family favourites like Hop, Peter Rabbit, or Rise of the Guardians. It’s a low-key way to wind down after an action-packed day.
9. Create a Family Easter Photo Album
Why not use the extra time together to print some photos and make an Easter-themed family photo book or scrapbook? Kids love seeing themselves in print, and it’s a wonderful way to relive past Easters and reflect on how everyone’s grown.
As a photographer, I promise you—printed memories have magic.
