The Magic of Looking Back
Recently, I had the privilege of photographing one of our beautiful Brisbane families for a second time.
The first session was back in 2006.
Their children were young. Full of energy. Still small enough to squeeze into Mum and Dad’s arms.
The family portrait from that session is filled with everything parents wish they could bottle up forever: big smiles, little faces, and that wonderful season when childhood feels like it might last forever.
Of course, it doesn’t.
Life happens.
Children grow.
Families evolve.
And before you know it, over a decade has passed.
When I photographed this same family again in 2017, everything had changed — and yet, somehow, everything was still beautifully familiar.
The little children from the first portrait were now young adults.
The family dynamic had shifted.
There was a new addition to the family too: their beloved dog.
The years had added new stories, new experiences, and new memories.
And because they had photographs from both chapters, they could see just how far they’d come.
Family Photography Is About More Than One Moment
Many people think family photography is about capturing a single point in time.
In reality, it’s about documenting a journey.
