Why My Daughter’s Wedding Made Me Reflect on Father’s Day – Brisbane Family Moments

Last Friday, our family celebrated one of the most magical moments of our lives — the wedding of my beautiful daughter Izzy to her equally wonderful husband, Andrew.

I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings over the years, but nothing compares to experiencing your own daughter’s wedding day. From the emotional ceremony to the laughter-filled reception, it was, without a doubt, the best wedding I’ve ever been to.

But amidst all the sparkle and joy, one moment stood out for me — the reminder of just how deeply fathers shape their families.

A Father’s Quiet Legacy

In my speech, I shared something that’s always been close to my heart. My daughters grew up seeing the way their father, Andy, has always beautifully treated me with kindness, love, and respect. That example shaped them — it showed them how women deserve to be treated.

So, when Izzy found Andrew, I wasn’t surprised. She chose a man who reflects that same goodness. Someone who values her, respects her, and balances her perfectly. As a mum, there’s no greater comfort than knowing your daughters will always be surrounded by love.

With Father’s Day just around the corner, I couldn’t help but think: this is the quiet but powerful legacy fathers leave behind. They don’t just raise children — they model what love looks like.

A Day Filled with Magic

Everything about Izzy and Andrew’s day felt like it was pulled straight from a movie. From the laughter during speeches to the breathtaking first dance under sparklers while everyone sang along to Bryan Adams’ Heaven… it was pure magic.

None of it would have been possible without the incredible team of vendors who helped make the day unforgettable:

  • Venue: Austinvilla Estate – the perfect all-in-one setting that made the entire day flow seamlessly.

  • Hair & Makeup: Sarah Laidlaw – my dear friend, who has been part of our family’s milestones since Izzy’s school formal, and once again made us all feel so special.

  • Celebrant: Sue – Gold Coast Celebrant – who brought joy, warmth, and laughter to the ceremony.

  • Photography: Ivy Road Wedding Photography – who beautifully captured the magic of the day so we can relive it forever.

Celebrating Fathers This Weekend

As we step into Father’s Day here in Brisbane, I encourage families to pause and reflect on the role dads play in shaping not just their children’s lives, but generations to come.

This year, instead of socks or another tie, why not give Dad the gift of memories? A timeless black & white family portrait is something he can treasure for a lifetime — a reminder of the love he has built around him.

We have Father’s Day Gift Vouchers available here for families who want to capture this moment in time. Because years from now, it won’t be the things that matter — it will be the memories. I might be biased as a family photographer but it’s still one of the best gifts any dad could receive!

Final Thoughts
